Working with The Baugh Foundation

We warmly welcome applications from organizations working in progressive-Baptist or other progressive, faith-related spaces. We prioritize applications from organizations that are openly welcoming and affirming, and organizations that do not discriminate.

Our Foundation’s roots are Baptist. The Baptist distinctives of soul, bible, church, and religious freedoms are in the DNA of the Baugh Foundation. Baptists, including our founders Eula Mae and John Baugh, have historically and tirelessly advocated for these religious freedoms for all. The Baugh family and other Baptists of their era worked for many years to warn their denomination and country of the growing threat of Christian nationalism and other anti-religious freedom and fascist movements. As Christian nationalism erodes the separation of church and state in the United States, this threat remains a primary focus for our Foundation and the target of much of our current funding.

We strive to form genuine and meaningful relationships with our grantees, celebrating their growth and achievements along the way. Realizing that funding is only one piece of a thriving and successful organizational equation, we often connect our grantees, past and present, with others doing similar work. Our goal is to facilitate cooperation so our grantees can leverage each other’s strengths and make a lasting impact in their communities.
